Intuitive vs. Reflective Readings
Two paths to card work: Discover the difference between intuitive and reflective approaches and find out which suits you.
There is no "one right way" to read tarot. Two fundamentally different approaches have emerged: the intuitive and reflective paths. Both have their strengths – and the combination can be particularly powerful.
The intuitive approach: Here, first impressions count. You look at the card and allow feelings, images, and spontaneous associations to arise. What catches your attention? What emotions does the image evoke? This method is especially suitable for emotionally charged questions and people who listen well to their gut feelings.
The reflective approach: Here, systematic analysis takes center stage. You examine the symbolism, the position in the spread, the connections to other cards. This method is suitable for complex questions and people who prefer a structured approach.
When does which approach fit? For matters of the heart and emotional topics: rather intuitive. For decisions with many factors: rather reflective. For daily cards: intuitive for quick impulses. For detailed readings: reflective for depth.
The ideal: You combine both approaches. Start intuitively – what does your first feeling tell you? Then deepen reflectively – what do the symbols and positions say? This way, you use both your emotional and analytical intelligence for a holistic interpretation.
